Anyone wishing to sit for a general or PWC licence test must first complete a compulsory boating safety course. Once you have successfully completed the course simply present your certificate to any NSW Maritime customer service centre along with the appropriate licence fee and a NSW Recreational Powerboat Licence will be issued. NO FURTHER TESTING IS REQUIRED!
We run courses in all areas of Sydney, the Central Coast and the Illawarra. There is sure to be a course on close to you. We will also bring this course to your home, club or school for groups of 6 or more.
At the moment you need to have a boat licence to drive a recreational boat at speeds of ten knots or more. There are no restriction on the size of the boat or the engine size. However, these may be changed by NSW Maritime in the future.
You can get a Adult License at 16 years of age and a Young Adult license at 12 years of age. The Young Adult License will automatically upgrade to a full Adult License on the holders sixteenth birthday. No further testing is required.
There are restrictions on a Young Adult License holder. These restrictions include, Not Permitted to tow a water skier, Speed restricted to 10 knots at night, Speed restricted to 20 knots during the day and they must have a Adult License holder with them when travelling at speeds greater than 10 knots, May act as an observer when towing water skiers.
Our ONE DAY training course and includes the test. In the morning we cover everything you need to know and more plus view the videos. In the afternoon we are out in the boat doing practical boat handling exercises and applying the theory knowledge covered in the morning sessions.
You will learn about Marine Regulations, Preventions of Collisions at Sea Rules, safety equipment and how to use it correctly, anchoring, trip planning, managing emergencies, weather and tides, marine radios, engine and boat maintanance, and more.

What you need to bring along for the day.
You will need to bring along suitable proof of identity. Eg drivers licence, passport.
Persons aged 12-16 years must bring a birth certificate, either original or a certified copy. Their parent or guardian is also required to show proof of identity.
For the practical session you willl need suitable clothing, hat, sunglasses, sun lotion and a towel.

>>Powerboat Handling Certificate

Operators of all powerboats and sportboats have a great responsibility towards other water users and the environment as well as the community.
The Powerboat Handling Certificate aims to provide insight into the safe use of these craft, the equipment they must carry, and a knowledge of the aspects of seamanship, navigation, weather and responsibities which govern their use.
The course is designed to provide those who go powerboating with the skills and knowledge to enjoy their time on the water safely.
Consisting of three days of intensive theory and practical boating. You will learn about Coastal Navigation, Global Positioning Systems, Marine Radios, Safety at Sea, Marine Engines and fuel systems, Bilge and Fire Pumping Systems, Rough Water Boat Handling, Advanced Boat handling Skills, Weather, MARPO, and much more.
This course follows on from the Recreational Powerboat Operators Certificate (Boat Licence) and is a pre requisite for the Safety (Rescue) Boat Certificate.
We run this course in all areas of Sydney, the Central Coast and the Illawarra. We will also bring the training to your club or school for groups of 6 or more.

SHOREBASED TEACHING
Types of craft : advantages and disadvantages of different hull forms with
respect to sea keeping ability
Engines and drives: advantages and disadvantages of outboard, inboard and
outdrive units, power tilt and trim tabs, single and twin screws, choice and use of fuel
Position of fuel tanks, fuel lines, filters, batteries, wiring, fire extinguishers
Routine engine maintenance checks, basic fault diagnosis

One day course for those who use powerboats to provide support and safety cover for other watersports.
We will introduce the techniques used in powerboats escorting racing fleets of dinghies, windsurfers and canoes, providing safety and rescue cover for training fleets, and assisting in race management.
