Nadene Wilson
Nadene started sailing on her father's catamaran (Two Awesome) at the age of three and loved to get on the boat and go for a ride across the bay at speed. At eleven years of age she was crewing for her father every weekend and won her first club championship as a crew that year. Nadene was hooked on the sport and moved onto skipper a Manly Junior in 1995 with her sister crewing for her, racing at club, and state levels. Then in 1998 Nadene was offered the chance to skipper the flying ant A Blonde Moment with Jacqui Bell as her crew for the season. Nadene and Jacqui went to all the state regattas in the skiff and also the National Championship at Yorkies Knob in far north Queensland. The girls had a great year learning how to make a Flying Ant go fast. 1999 saw Nadene launching her own flying ant skiff, which she named Antz Pantz and teamed up with Eddie Fairburn as her crew. Sailing out of Greenwich Sailing Club in Sydney. Nadene was soon recognised by the Flying Ant Association and Yachting NSW as a rising star. By the time Nadene was 16 she was in the top 6 of the ant class and a member of the Yachting NSW High Performance Squad, represented NSW in the National Championships. Contributed to NSW winning the much coveted teams trophy that year and finishing in eighth place in the national results out of a fleet of over eighty skiffs. She was also a member of Yachting New South Wales Youth Development Programs and an Identified Elite Athlete. In 2001 she won the Greenwich Sailing Club Championship and Point Score for the Flying Ant class sailing Antz Pantz to win every race. She also won the Club President¡¯s Shield. Nadene was accepted into the NSW Sport and Recreation Talented Athlete Program that year. In 2002 she joined up with Peter Vicurgiuos sailing Pumpkin Eater in the NS14 class and they went on to win and become the National Champions for that year. Nadene now sails skiffs, dinghies and small keel boats. She is a full time university student. Working every weekend and the school vacations coaching all levels of sailing and racing in the sport. Nadene holds a Diploma of Sports Management and Coaching (Hons), NCAS 1, Sports Medicine Level 1 Certificate, Get into Small Boating Racing Instructor, Senior/Intermediate/Level 2 First Aid Certificate, YA Powerboat Handling Certificate and a YA Safety (rescue) Boat Certificate. She has a passion for the sport of sailing that is positively infectious.
